Kindergarten – Mrs. Young
Mrs. Young has been our Kindergarten teacher for the past nine years. Mrs. Young holds her teaching degree from Bethany College and an ACSI Teacher Credential. She has a very active, hands-on approach, to teaching that helps the students solidify a firm foundation in all areas of academics. Also, as a pastor’s wife and Christian mentor, she has a passion to help her students discover God’s love for them. When she is not spending time with her two grand children, she enjoys reading and gardening.
1st Grade – Mrs. Harter
I graduated from Maranatha Baptist Bible College, and soon after started teaching at San Francisco Christian School. My husband and I got married a couple of years later. After moving to Santa Clara, we were blessed with five children over the next ten years. The Lord has allowed us to work in many ministries at our church, over the last almost thirty years. In 2008, I started working at North Valley Baptist Schools, and taught Third grade for four years.
Now, as I teach at Santa Clara Christian School in the 2015-2016 year, I love knowing your child, and working together with our First Grade Parents. With the Lord’s help, it is my prayer that we will accomplish great things!
2nd Grade – Mrs. Nice
Mrs. Nice is the co-founder of Santa Clara Christian School and has been teaching for more than 20 years. She has her BA in Liberal Arts and MA in Education from Pepperdine University. When she is not teaching, she is reading, gardening, or exploring. She has been married to Mr. Nice for 26 years and has 4 children.
3rd Grade – Mrs. Mackey
Mrs. Mackey has been teaching at Santa Clara Christian School for five years. She graduated with her teaching degree from Cal State San Marcos and received her California Teaching Credential from Concordia University. Mrs. Mackey is married and has two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, the beach and watching movies.
4th Grade – Mr. Cole
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I am in my 5th year of teaching. Working with youth has always been a great passion of mine. I’ve been involved in youth ministry for 13 years and am currently the Youth Coordinator for my church. When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing and watching sports, surfing, fishing and going to the gym. I am very blessed and grateful that God has called me to this profession. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
5th Grade – Mrs. Lawhorne
I was born in Washington and raised in Oregon. I came to California my freshman year to attend Bethany University. I graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Child Development and a minor in Missions. I continued my education at Bethany and pursued the teacher education program. I have a California Multiple Subjects Credential with a CLAD emphasis. In addition, I have a Masters in Education.
My teaching career has been diverse. I have taught preschoolers, elementary students, college students enrolled in Child Development classes, and teachers at ACSI Teacher Conventions. Working with children is a real passion for me. I am grateful that God has called me to this profession.
I am blessed with a beautiful family. My husband, Brohne, and I have been married for 15 years, living in Santa Cruz. We have two terrific boys, Holden, who is in the Brown Bear class and Sawyer, who is in the Koala class. As a family we enjoy the outdoors; camping, diving, boating, kayaking, biking, and hiking.
